LSA is looking for motivated individuals to join the Board of Directors

Organization Description:

Locust Street Art is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is located in Buffalo’s historic Fruit Belt neighborhood and has provided access to free, high-quality art education for the past 60 years. We offer a variety of free studio arts classes (ceramics, painting & drawing, photography, studio animation) from age 4 to adult and low-cost specialized workshops and custom services to the community. We serve all artists in Buffalo and Erie County but are especially proud to provide a safer space of exploration and creativity for artists living in frontline communities, who often do not have equitable access to quality arts education.

Industry: Visual Arts Education

Position: Board Member – Financial and fundraising expertise preferred, but not required

Applicant Deadline: Rolling

Position Description:

The LSA Board of Directors is comprised of artists, activists, and leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission of providing accessible and high-quality arts education to everyone. Serving on the LSA Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about universal access to the arts, high-quality arts education, and strengthening leadership and governance in the arts and cultural community.

Board members are expected to attend meetings, currently held the third Wednesday of each month (excepting July and December). They are expected to read board materials in advance of meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions. New board members will participate in an orientation and on-boarding process which will prepare them for their role and help them connect with the organization. Board members are expected to serve on one or more committees of the board and to undertake special assignments willingly and enthusiastically.

Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the resources LSA needs to fulfill our mission. Though financial resources are crucial to our work at LSA, we also lift up and celebrate creativity, community engagement, and advocacy for the arts as needed resources that our Board of Directors bring to the table. Board members are expected to connect their personal networks to LSA to help develop funding relationships, community connections, and to celebrate LSA’s amazing work. All Board members volunteer their time in addition to making a meaningful financial annual contribution to Locust Street Art. In addition to a personal contribution, financial support may take a variety of forms: in-kind donations, solicitations, and leading fundraising initiatives.
