Supplies to Bring

Just yourself! We have clay, kilns, glazes and lots of sculpting tools for you to use free of charge.

Class Description

If you need a creative outlet, there’s nothing quite like the tactile experience of working with clay. From drafting your idea to molding it by hand to firing it in the kiln and glazing it to perfection, ceramics is a satisfying and rewarding process that allows you create whatever you can imagine, from the purely functional to the wildly creative. Working with clay is also a fantastic way to de-stress after a hectic day at work or school.

No matter if you’ve been making ceramics for years or you’ve never touched a piece of clay in your life, Locust Street Art has something to offer you in our clay class.

First, you will learn the fundamentals of ceramics, generating an idea that is both creative and structurally sound and then sculpting the clay to make your vision a reality. Then, we’ll fire your creation in the kiln, so it can dry and harden. After that, you will have the opportunity to glaze and decorate, resulting in a beautiful and unique piece of art that is built to last. There’s no more rewarding feeling than seeing the piece of art that you’ve been working on for weeks finally come out of the kiln, finished just as you’ve envisioned.

Our teen/adult clay class is held at the same time as our children’s clay class, and we’ve found that it’s a great way for families to relax and spend time together in a positive and creative environment. But you can always come by yourself as well. We’re always happy to enroll a new student of any age at Locust Street Art.

As with most of the free art classes at Locust Street Art, we’ll provide the materials so that you can learn ceramics. Instruction is individually based, meaning that you are always encouraged to generate your own ideas and work at your own pace to make them a reality. Our students can come as often as they like, though clay students are especially encouraged to come often, as the process takes several sessions to complete.

Call today for more information, or just come by for class! Enrollment is ongoing and we can register you at the door.
